About

studioHendriksen is an Amsterdam based graphic design studio founded by Chantal Hendriksen. The studio's projects evolve from a deep affinity with contemporary art, which manifests itself in collaborations with art institutes, museums, galleries, individual artists and photographers as well as a wide range of self-initiated projects. The studio always likes to challenge the profession's autonomy in its collaborations with various other disciplines and all its projects are characterized by a conceptual and experimental approach.

Chantal Hendriksen (1978) studied graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and received her MA degree at Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem. The studio is a continuation of her former successful collaboration with Marijke Cobbenhagen. Together they initiated and co-founded the art magazine 'You Are Cordially Invited'. Accumulative to her practice Hendriksen is active as a tutor graphic designs and typography and has taught amongst others at HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht, California College of Arts in San Francisco and Design Academy Eindhoven. Currently she is acting co-head of the graphic design department of the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague together with colleague and designer Lauren Alexander.

The studio, situated in a former school in Amsterdam, is shared with graphic designers Connie Nijman, Olga Scholten and Jeremy Jansen, photographers/artists Jan Dirk van den Burg, Sanne van den Elzen, Kim Boske, Petra Stavast, Stefanie Grätz and writer/editor Taco Hidde Bakker. Besides this inspiring working environment the studio is equipped with different production possibilities, of which a Riso printer and an original Japanese indigo bath are special worth mentioning.

The combination of different roles is an essential part of studio Hendriksen’s practice, and finds in way to the public in many formats and media, from lectures, workshops, exhibitions, symposia, publications, books, magazines, identities, animations and printed matter characterized by a distinctive usage of colors and designs.

If not, don’t hesitate to ask for a verbal presentation or explanation. We’re happy to do so in any kind of setting; a possible cooperation, project or commission, a lecture or workshop.
